One of my favorite free blog themes is the Neoclassical theme by Chris Pearson. This is an adsense ready theme that has rotating headers that you can put at the top of your page and it's pretty easy for someone getting started to get used to doing. It comes with 3 or 4 stock images that automatically rotate, so it's easy to get some variation going on your site with minimal effort.
What are some of the free blog themes that you like?

Well, that's a large part of the beauty of wordpress. There's so many plug ins (called widgets) that most anything you want to accomplish that you see someone else already doing has a widget that can accomplish this without coding. With so many free templates available, you often don't really have to do much CSS editing to have a fresh looking blog.
If you plan to have a long term blog or you plan to monetize it, I highly recommend getting your own hosting. You can get shared vps hosting quite reasonably and it's really the way to go for any blog you are going to put a serious time investment into. Domain registration is about 10 bucks and hosting is about 6-20 bucks a month depending on your plan. Most hosting plans around 10 bucks a month would do you nicely. Drop me a pm if you would like a couple of recommendations.

In my honest opinion if you plan on monetizing your blog I would suggest against a free theme. I really think that custom blogs designs are great to really make your blog stand out. The world of blogging is a very saturated one and most blogs that are written are ignored and have very few readers.
However I do not believe that the theme is the most important aspect of your blog. Your blog needs to be written on with useful content! I see so many blogs out there trying to monetize themselves and worrying more about all of their ads than they are their content. Content is King, if you write quality content you will get found. I would suggest that you blog about something useful every day! This can become a daunting task if your niche is small but if you can manage to do it, it will pay off in the end I promise. We just created a blog for us here on the site. It will be posted on daily by one of the staff members. It's at http://www.affpros.com/blog so make sure everyone checks it out! |
